A sebaceous gland is a type of oil gland found almost all over the skin ( except palms and soles) and helps lubricate and waterproof the skin and hair. Most sebaceous glands are associated with hair follicles. Background:

  • Sebaceous adenomas are rare benign tumors originating from sebaceous glands.
  • Ocular surface involvement, particularly on the cornea, is exceptionally uncommon.

Observation:

  • An 83-year-old male presented with a significant white, solid, nodular lesion obscuring the cornea of his right eye.
  • Surgical excision of the corneal lesion was performed.
  • The corneal defect was subsequently reconstructed using amniotic membrane transplantation.

Findings:

  • Histopathological examination confirmed the lesion as a sebaceous adenoma.
  • Systemic evaluation did not reveal any other concurrent abnormalities.

Implications:

  • This case represents the first documented instance of a sebaceous adenoma originating on the cornea.
  • Distinguishing ocular surface sebaceous adenomas from those on the eyelid and conjunctiva is crucial due to potential associations with Muir-Torre syndrome and visceral malignancies.
  • Early diagnosis and complete excision are vital for managing this rare corneal tumor.
