Background:

Parental live liver donation offers an alternative for pediatric end-stage liver disease (ESLD).
Limited research exists on the long-term emotional effects of parental live liver donation on donors and families.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate the impact of parental live liver donation on the donor's daily life.
To analyze the social and emotional context of parental liver donation.

Main Methods:

Qualitative study involving 13 living parental donors from two West Coast transplant centers.
Data collection through semistructured interviews, observations, and field notes.
Analysis of physical, emotional, and familial aspects of donors' lives post-donation.

Main Results:

Thematic analysis revealed three key categories: enhanced self-awareness, clarified familial relationships, and shifted community perspectives.
A significant overarching theme identified was the transformative impact of donation on donors' lives.
Donation positively influenced intrafamilial relationships and the donor's worldview.

Conclusions:

Parental live liver donation leads to profound personal transformation for donors.
The process enhances self-understanding and strengthens family bonds.
Further research is needed to fully understand the long-term psychosocial outcomes.
