Background:

The free grafting of the mandibular condyle using vertical ramus osteotomy was introduced by Philip Boyne in 1987.
The original technique addressed markedly displaced fracture dislocations of the mandibular condyle.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate the efficacy of a modified Boyne technique for treating mandibular condylar fractures.
To assess the complication rates associated with this surgical approach.

Main Methods:

A modified Boyne technique was employed to treat 21 cases involving 25 condylar fractures.
This involved free grafting of the mandibular condyle with vertical ramus osteotomy.

Main Results:

The overall complication rate was 12%.
Specific complications included 8% resorption and 4% plate fracture.
The modified technique demonstrated a manageable complication profile.

Conclusions:

The modified Boyne procedure is a suitable mainstream treatment for displaced mandibular condyle fractures.
This surgical method offers a reliable solution for complex condylar injuries.
