Background:

  • Sick Sinus Syndrome (SSS) management requires understanding atrioventricular (AV) conduction.
  • Pacemaker syndrome and evolving pacing therapies necessitate evaluation of AV node function in SSS patients.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess the prevalence and characteristics of AV node dysfunction (AVND) in patients with SSS.
  • To determine the relationship between the degree of sinus node dysfunction (SND) and the occurrence of AVND.

  • Electrophysiological studies were performed on 46 patients with SND (SN recovery time > 1400 msec).
  • Patients were classified into four groups based on SN recovery time severity.
  • Concomitant AV node function was assessed, noting antegrade block rates.
