P-selectin expression in a colon tumor model exposed by sinusoidal electromagnetic fields

This study investigated P-selectin expression in a rat colon tumor model exposed to sinusoidal electromagnetic fields (SMF). Results showed no significant change in P-selectin levels, suggesting further in vivo and in vitro research is needed.

Purpose of the Study:

- Tumors were induced using MNU, and experimental groups were exposed to SMF (50 Hz, 5 mT) for 6 hours daily over 8 months.
- P-selectin expression in colon tissues was quantified using immunohistochemistry and the labeled streptavidin biotin method.

- No statistically significant difference in P-selectin expression was observed between the groups exposed to SMF and the control group.
- The study found no significant impact of sinusoidal electromagnetic fields on P-selectin expression in this colon tumor model.
Conclusions:
- The current findings indicate that SMF exposure did not alter P-selectin expression in the rat colon tumor model.
- Further in vivo and in vitro investigations are recommended to definitively ascertain the effects of electromagnetic fields on P-selectin and its role in tumor progression.
