Proactive rectal warming during prostate cryoablation reduces rectal pain without increasing cancer recurrence. This technique protects the rectum from freeze injury, improving patient comfort post-procedure.

  • A cohort of 166 patients undergoing total-gland cryoablation (TGC) for prostate cancer were studied.
  • 100 patients received TGC alone, while 66 received PRW.
  • Rectal pain was prospectively graded using Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events; cancer recurrence was assessed by the Phoenix criterion.
