  • Interest and importance scores were highest before teaching (p < 0.005).
  • No significant association found between knowledge retention and subjective interest or importance.

Conclusions:

  • A substantial amount of early-taught biological psychiatry content is retained throughout medical school.
  • Retained knowledge is independent of students' subjective interest or perceived importance.
