Summary

Removing plaque and calculus from implant surfaces is crucial for preventing periimplant disease. A novel non-surgical technique using cord and surgical dressing effectively reduces probing depth, offering a less painful alternative to surgery for early-stage periimplantitis.

Area of Science:

  • Dental Implantology
  • Periodontology
  • Biomaterials Science

Background:

  • Plaque accumulation on titanium implant surfaces is a primary factor in periimplant disease development.
  • Effective plaque and calculus removal are essential for managing periimplant conditions.
  • Reducing periimplant probing depth is a key therapeutic goal.

Observation:

  • A non-surgical method utilizing a cord and surgical dressing pack was employed to address periimplant disease.
  • This technique focuses on plaque and calculus removal and probing depth reduction.
  • The procedure was applied to periimplant mucositis and mild periimplantitis cases.

Findings:

  • The application of a cord and surgical dressing pack successfully reduced periimplant probing depth.
  • This method demonstrated efficacy in managing periimplant mucositis and mild periimplantitis.
  • The technique resulted in less pain compared to surgical interventions.

Implications:

  • This non-surgical approach offers a viable treatment option for early-stage periimplant disease.
  • It provides a less invasive and potentially less painful alternative to surgical management.
  • The procedure aids in maintaining narrow keratinized mucosa, contributing to implant health.
