Background:

Asthma is a significant chronic respiratory condition in children.
Effective asthma management in primary care is crucial for improving patient outcomes.
There is a need for standardized measures to assess the quality of asthma care.

Purpose of the Study:

To develop and validate quality indicators for asthma care within primary health care settings.
To establish a consensus-based set of indicators for monitoring and improving asthma management.
To ensure comprehensive assessment of asthma care, including access, effectiveness, patient-centeredness, and safety.

Main Methods:

A modified RAND methodology was employed, incorporating a systematic literature review.
A multidisciplinary panel of 98 healthcare professionals participated in a two-round Delphi process.
Indicators were scored using a Likert scale to achieve expert consensus.

Main Results:

105 potential indicators were initially reviewed, resulting in the selection of 46 for expert evaluation.
32 indicators achieved over 70% agreement among the expert panel.
Seven indicators were identified as scoring highest across various care dimensions for pediatric asthma.

Conclusions:

A validated set of 32 quality indicators for asthma follow-up in primary care has been established.
These indicators provide a robust framework for assessing and enhancing the quality of asthma care.
The developed indicators underwent a rigorous selection and agreement process, ensuring their relevance and reliability.
