To describe two case studies of independent elders in assisted living with sensor systems.
To assess the utility of linguistic summaries for detecting health status and activity level declines over 24 months.
To iteratively refine linguistic summaries with input from engineers and nurses.

Activity data from apartment sensors (motion, bed restlessness) were summarized.
Fuzzy measures compared nighttime activity between different periods.
A registered nurse collaborated to develop algorithms and phrases describing activity changes.

Resident 3004 exhibited changes from baseline activity post-knee surgery due to back spasms.
