[Surgical management of congenital eyelid ptosis with silicone rod--outcome analysis]
Insights
Surgical management of congenital eyelid ptosis using a silicone rod showed good functional and cosmetic outcomes in pediatric patients. This effective technique improved levator muscle function and eyelid appearance.
Area of Science:
- Ophthalmology
- Pediatric Surgery
Context:
- Congenital eyelid ptosis affects children, impacting vision and aesthetics.
- Surgical intervention is often necessary to correct eyelid malposition.
Purpose:
- To analyze the outcomes of surgical management for congenital eyelid ptosis.
- To evaluate the efficacy of using a silicone rod in ptosis repair.
Summary:
- Twelve children (aged 2-18) with congenital eyelid ptosis (unilateral and bilateral) underwent ptosis repair using a silicone rod.
- The study focused on assessing levator muscle function pre- and post-surgery.
- Functional and cosmetic results of the silicone rod procedure were evaluated.
Impact:
- The silicone rod technique offers a viable surgical option for congenital eyelid ptosis.
- Positive functional and aesthetic improvements were observed in pediatric patients.
- This method may enhance levator muscle function, contributing to better visual outcomes.
Purpose:
To analyze the outcomes of surgical management of congenital eyelid ptosis with the use of silicone rod.
Material And Methods:
Congenital eyelid ptosis was diagnosed in 12 children aged 2-18 years: 6 cases with unilateral, and 6 with bilateral ptosis. Analyzing the patients we focused on the function of levator muscle before and after the surgery in particular. Ptosis repair was performed with the use of silicone rod in all children.
Results:
Functional and cosmetic outcomes of the procedure with the silicone rod were good.
