Cancer Survival Analysis01:21

Cancer Survival Analysis

863
Cancer survival analysis focuses on quantifying and interpreting the time from a key starting point, such as diagnosis or the initiation of treatment, to a specific endpoint, such as remission or death. This analysis provides critical insights into treatment effectiveness and factors that influence patient outcomes, helping to shape clinical decisions and guide prognostic evaluations. A cornerstone of oncology research, survival analysis tackles the challenges of skewed, non-normally...

Study Designs in Epidemiology

1.6K
Epidemiological study designs are fundamental tools for investigating the distribution, determinants, and control of health conditions in populations. They help researchers understand the relationships between exposures and outcomes, and they broadly fall into two categories: "observational" and "experimental" studies.
Observational studies are those where the researcher does not intervene but rather observes natural variations. They include cross-sectional, cohort, and...

Area of Science:

  • Oncology
  • Occupational Health
  • Psychosocial Support

Background:

  • Many employed women with cancer stop working during treatment.
  • Return-to-work is influenced by psychosocial factors, especially for those in precarious situations.
  • Early active individualized psychosocial support (APAPI) is developed to aid return-to-work.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To describe the development and content of the APAPI intervention.
  • To facilitate the return to work for female breast cancer patients, particularly those facing social fragility.
  • To reduce social inequalities in return-to-work outcomes.

Main Methods:

  • Intervention involves 4 psychologist interviews and 1 job retention physician consultation.
  • Patients are assessed using the EPICES score for social precariousness.
  • A controlled, randomized multi-center study design is employed.
  • Eligible patients: women aged 18-55, unilateral breast cancer, employed at diagnosis, receiving surgery and adjuvant chemotherapy.

Main Results:

  • Expected reduction in social inequalities of return-to-work rate at 12 months.
  • Anticipated reduction in social inequalities in return-to-work quality at 18 and 24 months.
  • Aim to reduce disparities in individual and collective patient resources.

Conclusions:

  • The study will measure the impact of the APAPI intervention.
  • Essential to assess this intervention before widespread implementation.
  • Compares APAPI's effectiveness against standard care for breast cancer patients facing social fragility.
