    Prostate biopsy tumor volume accurately predicts actual tumor volume. Increasing biopsy core numbers does not improve this prediction, suggesting routine volume assessment is valuable for surgical planning.

    Background:

    • Accurate estimation of prostate cancer tumor volume is crucial for treatment planning.
    • Prostate biopsy provides initial information but its predictive capability for final tumor volume requires assessment.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the correlation between prostate biopsy tumor volume and actual tumor volume.
    • To determine if an increased number of biopsy cores enhances the prediction of actual tumor volume.

    • Retrospective analysis of 663 patients undergoing robotic radical prostatectomy.
    • Calculation of biopsy tumor volume and actual tumor volume from pathology reports.
    • Statistical analysis to assess the relationship between biopsy volume and actual volume, and the impact of core number.

    • A significant positive linear relationship was observed between biopsy tumor volume and actual tumor volume (R=0.524, P<0.0001).

    • Biopsy tumor volume is a useful predictor of actual tumor volume in prostate cancer.
    • Routine collection of biopsy tumor volume can aid in developing more effective preoperative nomograms for surgical planning.
