Heterochromatin protein 1 expression is reduced in human thyroid malignancy

Loss of Heterochromatin Protein 1 beta (HP1β) expression is observed in most thyroid tumors, potentially due to microRNA dysregulation. Reduced HP1β and subsequent decrease in HP1α indicate thyroid cancer progression and metastatic potential.
