    Background:

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the hypothesis that balancing-side interferences significantly reduce masticatory system performance.
    • To quantify the effect of simulated balancing interferences on food particle size reduction.

    Main Methods:

    • Twenty-one healthy subjects chewed standardized silicone cubes under three conditions: natural dentition, structured occlusal splints, and splints with balancing interferences.
    • Masticatory performance was assessed by analyzing particle size distribution (X(50)-values) using a validated scanning procedure.
