This case report details a rare co-occurrence of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment and retinoschizis in a 43-year-old patient. Surgical intervention led to a favorable postoperative outcome.

    Area of Science:

    • Ophthalmology
    • Retinal Surgery

    Background:

    • Rhegmatogenous retinal detachment and retinoschizis are distinct retinal pathologies.
    • Co-occurrence of these conditions is exceptionally rare.

    Observation:

    • A 43-year-old patient presented with symptoms indicative of both conditions.
    • Diagnostic evaluation confirmed the simultaneous presence of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment and retinoschizis.

    Findings:

    • Surgical management was indicated for this rare disease association.
    • The patient underwent a 23-gauge vitrectomy with laser retinopexy, peripheral cryopexy, and internal heavy silicone oil tamponade.
    • Postoperative follow-up revealed a favorable clinical evolution.

    Implications:

    Related Experiment Videos
