Background:

Growing demand for evidence-based healthcare necessitates a clear research direction in osteopathy.
Stakeholder input is crucial for establishing relevant research priorities within the osteopathic profession.

Purpose of the Study:

To explore and establish research priorities for osteopathy based on the perspectives of osteopaths and patients.
To inform the development of a strategic research agenda for the osteopathic profession.

Main Methods:

A modified Delphi consensus approach using online questionnaire surveys with osteopaths and patients (n=145).
Multi-round surveys involved identifying research areas, ranking their importance, and refining consensus-based topics.
Descriptive analysis and Kendall's coefficient of concordance were used to interpret consensus.

Main Results:

Round 1 identified 610 research priority areas. Round 2 identified 69 important research themes.
Round 3 refined the list to 20 priority topic areas across four themes: treatment effectiveness (7 areas), osteopathy's role in managing conditions (4 areas), treatment risks (2 areas), and outcomes (2 areas).

Conclusions:

The study successfully identified and prioritized key research areas in osteopathy through stakeholder consensus.
These findings provide a foundation for developing a comprehensive, evidence-based research strategy for osteopathy.
