In operant conditioning, the timing of reinforcement is crucial. For animals like rats and cats, immediate reinforcement (within a few seconds) is much more effective than delayed reinforcement. Summary

This study shows that reward context, not just magnitude, influences behavioral inhibition. Initial high rewards can boost performance long-term, highlighting dynamic inhibitory control in humans.
