    Summary

    Endosteal implants are not recommended for retaining jaw resection prostheses due to high failure rates and complications like inflammation. This study found no medical indications for their use in oncologic defect rehabilitation.

    • Endosteal and transdental implants have been explored for retaining resection prostheses.

    Purpose:

    • To evaluate the efficacy of endosteal implants in supporting prostheses for patients with oncologic jaw defects.
    • To determine the suitability of Linkow, Sandhaus, and Vitradent type implants for this application.

    Summary:

    • Ten implants (nine endosteal, one transdental) were used in six patients.
    • Most implants failed due to loosening and mucosal inflammation within 46 to 139 days.
    • Implant survival ranged from 8 days to 2 years, with a high overall failure rate.

    Impact:

    • The study concludes there are no medical indications for using these endosteal implants in resection prostheses.
    • Findings suggest alternative methods are needed for prosthetic rehabilitation of oncologic jaw defects.
