Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the efficacy of ATT in TB/HIV co-infected patients.
  • To assess treatment outcomes in a resource-limited setting.

Main Methods:

  • A prospective observational study was conducted from December 2006 to December 2008.
  • 135 TB/HIV co-infected patients receiving ART at Seti Zonal Hospital were enrolled.
  • ATT response was evaluated using WHO guidelines and directly observed treatment short-course (DOTS).

  • The majority of patients (71.9%) were male, with 88% aged 21-50.
  • Pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) was prevalent (68.1%), and lymph node TB was the most common extra-pulmonary TB (EPTB).
  • 53.33% completed ATT, while 12.6% defaulted.

  • Pulmonary TB and lymph node TB are common in this TB/HIV co-infected cohort.
  • ATT demonstrated high efficacy in HIV patients within this resource-poor environment.
  • Effective monitoring and adherence support are essential for successful TB/HIV management.
