    Summary

    Cryptorchidism, or undescended testes, was evaluated for genetic links in 29 patients. Testicular biopsies revealed normal cytogenetics in most cases, suggesting no strong association between cryptorchidism and abnormal testicular cell genetics.

    Background:

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the cytogenetic profile of testicular tissue in patients with cryptorchidism.

    • Testicular biopsies were performed on 29 patients undergoing orchiopexy for unilateral or bilateral cryptorchidism.
    • Fibroblast cultures were established from biopsy specimens for karyotype analysis.
    • A minimum of 25 cells were analyzed per patient's karyotype.

    • Normal karyotypes were identified in 28 out of 29 patients.
    • One patient with multiple congenital anomalies exhibited a 46,XYDq+ karyotype.
