Summary

Patients with Sjögren's syndrome (SS) exhibit normal B cell growth factor (BCGF) responses but enhanced B cell stimulatory factor (BSF) responses. This heightened BSF responsiveness in SS B cells may drive polyclonal B cell activation and increased immunoglobulin G (IgG) production.

Background:

  • Sjögren's syndrome (SS) is a chronic autoimmune disorder characterized by lymphocytic infiltration of exocrine glands.
  • Polyclonal B cell activation and hypergammaglobulinemia are common features in SS, suggesting dysregulation of B cell function.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the production of and responsiveness to B cell growth factor (BCGF) in SS patients.
  • To evaluate the in vitro response of SS B cells to B cell stimulatory factors (BSF), focusing on immunoglobulin G (IgG) production.
