Summary
We describe a case of IgG4-related disease presenting with abdominal pain and weight loss. This condition, characterized by mass lesions and lymphadenopathy, responded successfully to steroid therapy.
Area of Science:
- Medicine
- Immunology
- Radiology
Background:
- Immunoglobulin G4-related disease (IgG4-RD) is a multisystem fibroinflammatory condition.
- IgG4-RD can present with diverse clinical manifestations, including abdominal and thoracic involvement.
Observation:
- A patient presented with significant abdominal pain and unintentional weight loss.
- Computed tomography (CT) imaging revealed characteristic mass lesions in the chest and abdomen.
- Enlarged lymph nodes (lymphadenopathy) were also noted on imaging.
Findings:
- The patient was diagnosed with IgG4-related disease based on clinical, imaging, and potentially pathological findings.
- The patient demonstrated a significant positive response to corticosteroid therapy.
Implications:
- This case highlights the importance of considering IgG4-related disease in the differential diagnosis of unexplained abdominal pain and mass lesions.
- Effective management with steroids suggests a potential therapeutic strategy for similar presentations.
- Further research into IgG4-RD pathogenesis and treatment is warranted.
