Purpose of the Study:

  • To determine reference elastosonography values for cervical lymph nodes.
  • To assess the utility of elastosonography in differentiating benign from malignant cervical LNs.

Main Methods:

  • Evaluated 97 cervical lymph nodes using B-mode and elastosonography.
  • Measured parameters including depth, length, width, thickness ratios, strain ratio (SR), and elasticity scores (ES).

Main Results:

  • Significant correlations were found between thickness ratios and elasticity scores (P: 0.011).
  • Significant correlations were also observed between SR groups and elasticity scores.
  • Elasticity scores ranged from 1 to 4, with 33% of LNs showing ES 1.

Conclusions:

  • Elastosonography is a valuable, noninvasive tool for distinguishing benign from malignant cervical LNs.
  • This technique can potentially decrease the need for biopsies in cases of benign lymphadenopathy.
