[Ventilatory strategies in the multiple-injured patient]
1Service d'anesthésiologie, Soins intensifs de chirurgie, Centre hospitalier universitaire vaudois, Lausanne.
Abstract:
The main goal of mechanical ventilation in trauma patients is to optimize tissue oxygen delivery. Specific technics are used when indicated, i.e. curarization in shocked patients, hyperventilation in head injured patients with intracranial hypertension, independent lung ventilation in asymmetric lung injury or in bronchopleural fistula, and high frequency ventilation in bronchopleural fistula.
