Summary

A rare splenic arteriovenous fistula causing portal hypertension was successfully treated with embolization. This minimally invasive approach offers an effective alternative to splenectomy for managing this condition.

  • A 60-year-old female presented with hematemesis and anemia.
  • Imaging revealed signs of liver cirrhosis, portal hypertension, and a suspected splenic arteriovenous fistula.
  • CT angiography and selective splenic artery angiography confirmed the diagnosis.

Findings:

  • The splenic arteriovenous fistula was treated using percutaneous transarterial embolization.
  • This interventional radiology technique successfully occluded the fistula.
