Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To develop a standardized, minimal image set from MDCT scans for anthropological age assessment.
  • To evaluate the efficacy of this MDCT-based approach for estimating age-at-death in juveniles.

Main Methods:

  • Created standard forms from MDCT images of 31 juvenile forensic cases with known age-at-death.
  • Five independent observers used the forms to estimate age-at-death from the selected image sets.
  • Assessed estimations against established anthropological and odontological standards.

Main Results:

  • All observers successfully estimated age-at-death for all cases using the standardized MDCT image sets.
  • Age estimations fell within accepted ranges for traditional forensic anthropological methods.
  • The developed standard form proved effective for anthropological assessment.
