    Summary

    Antiepilepsirine (AES) showed no overall significant clinical effects in pediatric epilepsy but was effective for tonic-clonic seizures. This new antiepileptic drug (AED) demonstrated a strong safety profile in children.

    Background:

    • Antiepilepsirine (AES) is a novel antiepileptic drug (AED) derived from a Chinese folk prescription.
    • While animal studies indicate marked antiepileptic action, clinical efficacy data for AES is limited.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of Antiepilepsirine (AES) in pediatric epilepsy patients.
    • To assess the impact of AES on blood levels of other antiepileptic drugs (AEDs).

    • A double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover study involving 58 children with epilepsy.
    • Patients received AES and placebo as add-on therapy for 3 months each.
