Abstract:
During the First World War, two hundred nurses served in the Ambulance de l'Océan, a military hospital located in La Panne, in Belgium, near the Yser front. The innovative organisation of the hospital, the specialisation of the services and the work accomplished there led to nurses being recognised as essential partners in the provision of medical care.
