Area of Science:

  • Dentistry
  • Oral Surgery
  • Dental Trauma Management

Background:

  • Tooth fractures, particularly in posterior teeth, present limited treatment options.
  • Current management often involves extraction or extensive surgical interventions.
  • Conservative approaches for fractured posterior teeth are less explored.

Observation:

  • A split posterior tooth, often an indication for extraction, was considered for conservative management.
  • The case involved a fractured posterior tooth requiring a novel approach to preserve it.
  • Assessment considered factors influencing the success of tooth reattachment.

Findings:

  • Successful reattachment of a split posterior tooth was achieved.
  • The reattached tooth was restored to function.

  • A full crown and root canal therapy provided necessary support for healing.
  • Implications:

    • Conservative reattachment offers a viable alternative to extraction for split posterior teeth.
    • This approach can restore tooth function and preserve dentition.
    • Further research into conservative management of dental trauma is warranted.
