Summary

This study identified numerous differentially expressed long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) in lung adenocarcinoma tissues. These findings suggest lncRNAs play a significant role in lung cancer development.

Background:

  • Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are implicated in lung cancer development and progression.
  • The specific roles of lncRNAs in lung cancer remain largely uncharacterized.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the expression patterns of lncRNAs in lung adenocarcinoma.
  • To identify lncRNAs associated with lung adenocarcinoma development.

Main Methods:

  • High-throughput microarray analysis of lncRNA and mRNA expression profiles in lung adenocarcinoma and normal tissues.
  • Verification of candidate lncRNAs using real-time quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR).

Main Results:

  • Microarray analysis revealed differential expression of 2,420 lncRNAs and 1,109 mRNAs (≥2-fold change) in lung adenocarcinoma compared to normal tissue.
  • qRT-PCR confirmed aberrant expression of 19 lncRNAs in lung adenocarcinoma tissues.
  • LOC100132354 and RPLP0P2 were identified as the most aberrantly expressed lncRNAs in 100 patient samples.

Conclusions:

  • The study successfully profiled lncRNA expression in lung adenocarcinoma.
  • The differential expression of numerous lncRNAs suggests their critical involvement in lung cancer pathogenesis.
