    Background:

    • Cross-modal dynamic capture (CDC) describes how one sensory motion stream can impede judgment of another.
    • Previous research explored stimulus onset asynchronies (SOAs) and spatial remapping in CDC.
    • Limited understanding existed regarding CDC under varied postures and a wide range of SOAs.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the time course of audio-tactile interaction in CDC.
    • To examine the influence of different spatial references (arms-uncrossed vs. arms-crossed) on CDC.
    • To explore the role of tactile distractor reliability in modulating CDC.

    Main Methods:

    • Participants judged auditory apparent motion direction with concurrent tactile distractors.
    • A broad range of SOAs (-400 ms to 400 ms) were used, varying the order of auditory and tactile streams.
    • Two postures were tested: arms-uncrossed and arms-crossed.

    Main Results:

    • In the arms-uncrossed condition, CDC was prominent within the temporal integration window (0-60 ms).
    • A preceding tactile cue (SOA ≥ 150 ms) reduced the CDC effect.
    • No CDC effect was observed in the arms-crossed posture.

    Conclusions:

    • CDC is modulated by the temporal relationship between cross-modal stimuli.
    • Spatial reference, particularly the posture relative to tactile distractors, significantly influences CDC.
    • The reliability of tactile spatial-temporal information likely accounts for the magnitude of audiotactile CDC effects.
