Summary

This case report details the first human Thelaziasis infection in Karnataka, India. The Oriental eye worm (Thelazia callipaeda) was identified in a patient, highlighting the need for greater clinical awareness of this under-reported parasitic eye disease.

  • A case of human thelaziasis is reported from Hassan District, Karnataka, India.
  • Five Thelazia callipaeda worms were removed from the conjunctival sac of a 74-year-old male patient.
  • Morphological identification and CDC confirmation established the species as Thelazia callipaeda.

  • This represents the first documented case of human thelaziasis in Karnataka.
  • The identification of Thelazia callipaeda confirms its presence in this region.
