  • Higher trait mindfulness correlated with lower memory specificity and more intense, positive emotional recall.
  • Higher rumination was linked to increased memory reliving and emotional intensity.
  • Depression scores showed no significant association with memory variables.

Conclusions:

  • Trait mindfulness is associated with autobiographical memory specificity, but in an opposite direction to findings from mindfulness training studies.
  • This discrepancy may stem from trait mindfulness influencing both memory encoding and retrieval, and promoting a focus on momentary self-reference.
