[Clinical observation and treatment of untreated incomplete fractured teeth]
Abstract:
122 patients with 143 untreated incompletely fractured teeth were observed clinically and treated. It has been found that in china, the untreated incomplete fractured teeth occurred mostly in the age group of 40-60 year old and much often on the upper molar than on the lower molar, with the highest frequency in the first molars. The history, symptoms and signs, the relationship of the fracture pattern and the sharp cusp and the abrasion surface, and the radiograph findings demonstrated that the traumatic occlusal force was the important predisposing factor and suggested that the developed defect and weak areas in tooth structure may be inherent predisposing factors. Of 109 cases followed-up for 1-3 years after treatment, 85 had received a complete treatment. The success rate was 91.76%. The result was much better in fractures limited in the cusp than in that of mesiodistal fractures. It was thought necessary to remove the oblique plane of the sharpened cusp greatly and to protect the tooth with a full-crown after the pulpal treatment.
