Temporal statistics of written correspondence are media-dependent and difficult to characterize.
Previous analyses struggled to disentangle spontaneous activity from decision-based prioritization in human dynamics.

To explain the difficulties in characterizing temporal statistics of written correspondence.
To identify universal patterns in human communication response times across different media.
To provide a framework for analyzing temporal dynamics in human interactions.

Disentangling spontaneous activity from decision-based prioritization using agent's "proper time" (activity-based time).
Analyzing waiting times in written correspondence (letters, email, SMS).
Collecting and analyzing years-long email response time data.
