This study evaluated four end-line filters for endotoxin removal. Nylon filters (FAE020, ELD96) effectively removed endotoxins in 5% glucose, but efficiency decreased with increased salt concentration.

  • Four end-line filters were tested: ELD96 (charge-modified hydrophilic nylon), FAE020 (unmodified nylon), Ivex-HP (hydrophilic cellulose ester), and Sterifix (hydrophilic cellulose ester).
  • Filters were challenged with natural endotoxins from Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and purified E. coli lipopolysaccharide.
  • Endotoxin removal was assessed in saline and 5% glucose solutions.

  • Ivex-HP and Sterifix filters demonstrated no endotoxin-removing capacity.
