Summary

We present a rare case of a giant thymoma, a type AB thymoma, found in the right hemithorax. Surgical removal led to a full recovery, with the patient remaining symptom-free two years post-operation.

Background:

Thymomas are typically benign neoplasms originating in the anterior mediastinum.
Giant thymomas are exceptionally rare, posing unique diagnostic and surgical challenges.

Observation:

A large 15x8 cm tumor was identified in the right hemithorax.
Histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of a type AB thymoma.

Findings:

The giant thymoma was successfully resected surgically.
The patient experienced a complete recovery and remained asymptomatic two years post-surgery.

Implications:

This case highlights the possibility of giant thymomas presenting outside the typical anterior mediastinal location.
Complete surgical excision is an effective treatment for large thymomas, leading to favorable long-term outcomes.
