Background:

  • Cavernous sinus fat deposits on CT scans have been considered an abnormal finding.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the prevalence of cavernous sinus fat deposits in patients with and without Cushing disease.
  • To determine if cavernous sinus fat is a reliable sign of Cushing disease.

  • Retrospective review of CT scans from 100 patients without Cushing disease and 10 patients with Cushing disease.
  • Analysis of the frequency of detectable cavernous sinus fat in both groups.

  • Twenty-seven percent of non-Cushing disease patients showed cavernous sinus fat.
