    Background:

    • Establishing accurate reference intervals (RIs) is crucial for clinical diagnostics.
    • Previous RIs may not accurately reflect the Turkish population due to demographic and regional variations.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To establish nationwide reference intervals for 25 common biochemical analytes in the Turkish population.
    • To investigate the influence of age, sex, region, and Body Mass Index (BMI) on these reference values.

    Main Methods:

    • A nationwide multicenter study collected blood samples from 3066 individuals across seven regions.
    • Standardized laboratory analysis using Abbott reagents and analyzers.
    • Statistical methods including latent abnormal values exclusion, parametric (Box-Cox) and non-parametric RIs derivation, ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis (MRA).

    Main Results:

    • No significant regional differences were found for any of the 25 analytes.
    • Significant sex-related differences were observed for 10 analytes, and age-related differences for seven analytes.
    • Multiple regression analysis identified BMI-related variations for uric acid, glucose, triglycerides, HDL-cholesterol, alanine aminotransferase, and γ-glutamyltransferase.

    Conclusions:

    • The derived reference intervals are applicable to the entire Turkish population due to the absence of regional variation and standardized testing.
    • Sex and age are significant factors influencing reference values for several biochemical analytes.
    • The study refined RIs for BMI-affected analytes by excluding individuals with BMI >28 kg/m2.
