    Traumatic chorioretinal rupture, or sclopetaria, can lead to retinal detachment. Close monitoring is recommended for patients after this eye injury to detect detachment early.

    • Traumatic chorioretinal rupture (sclopetaria) involves full-thickness breaks in the choroid and retina.
    • Caused by high-velocity projectiles near, but not penetrating, the eye.

    Observation:

    • Previous literature suggested retinal detachment rarely occurs with sclopetaria.
    • This study observed a series of patients with retinal detachment following sclopetaria.

    Findings:

    • Retinal detachment was observed in patients with traumatic chorioretinal rupture.
    • A literature review supports these observational findings.

    Implications:

    • Current management strategies for sclopetaria may need re-evaluation.
    • Close monitoring for retinal detachment is crucial in the initial weeks post-injury.
