Area of Science:

  • Neurosurgery
  • Ophthalmology
  • Minimally Invasive Surgery

Background:

  • Traditional lateral orbitotomy approaches can be invasive.
  • Endoscopic techniques offer potential for improved patient outcomes and reduced morbidity.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To describe a minimally invasive endoscopic technique for lateral orbitotomy.
  • To evaluate the functional and cosmetic results of endoscopic lateral orbitotomy.

Main Methods:

  • Detailed description of the anatomy at the temporal fossa/orbital wall junction.
  • A 1.5 cm skin incision in the lateral orbital wrinkle to detach temporal fascia.
  • Temporal muscle detachment to accommodate endoscopic instruments.
  • Neuronavigation-assisted bone opening in the lateral orbital wall for intraorbital access.
