Summary

Longer laser wavelengths are more effective for retinal burns in cataract patients. A multicolor pattern scan laser system showed yellow and red lasers outperformed green lasers in eyes with moderate to severe cataracts.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the efficacy of different laser wavelengths (green, yellow, red) for retinal burns in cataractous eyes.
  • To determine the relationship between cataract severity and required laser wavelength.

Main Methods:

  • A multicolor pattern scan laser system with 532 nm (green), 577 nm (yellow), and 647 nm (red) lasers was used.
  • 102 diabetic eyes with varying Emery-Little (EL) cataract severity grades were studied.
  • Treatment time, laser shots, and pain were recorded.

  • Green laser was effective for early cataracts (EL-1 and some EL-2).
