Area of Science:

  • Gynecologic Oncology
  • Pathology

Background:

  • Peritoneal gliomatosis involves mature glial implants on the peritoneum.
  • It is associated with ovarian teratomas, typically immature types.

Observation:

  • A case report details a woman with a history of ovarian teratoma.
  • She presented with miliary glial dissemination in the omentum and peritoneum during surgery for a contralateral ovarian tumor.

Findings:

  • The association between peritoneal gliomatosis and ovarian teratomas is infrequent.
  • Glial implants were observed in the omentum and peritoneum.

Implications:

  • While teratomas are the primary focus, peritoneal implants require monitoring for malignancy.
  • Establishing a monitoring protocol for these lesions is recommended.
