    Summary

    Pityriasis amiantacea (PA) presents as thick, asbestos-like scalp scales, often a reaction to other skin conditions. Prompt identification and treatment are crucial to prevent permanent hair loss and scalp fibrosis.

    • Pityriasis amiantacea (PA) is a scalp condition characterized by thick, adherent scales resembling asbestos.
    • It is considered a reactive pattern to various underlying inflammatory dermatoses rather than a distinct disease entity.

    • This report focuses on the clinical presentation of PA secondary to atopic dermatitis.
    • It also details the differential diagnostic features compared to other papulosquamous scalp disorders.

    Findings:

    • Scalp psoriasis and seborrheic dermatitis are identified as the most frequent causes and closest differentials of PA.
    • The study emphasizes the need to exclude these conditions in all PA cases.

    Implications:

    • Untreated PA can lead to long-term sequelae, including scalp fibrosis and irreversible alopecia.
