    Area of Science:

    • Dental Materials Science
    • Adhesive Dentistry
    • Restorative Dentistry

    Background:

    • Dentin adhesives are crucial for durable dental restorations.
    • Evaluating the long-term performance and stability of commercial adhesives is essential.
    • Gluma (glutaraldehyde/methacrylate dentin adhesive) is a widely used dental material.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To assess the clinical effectiveness of Gluma dentin adhesive.
    • To determine the shelf life and stability of Gluma over an extended period.
    • To compare the performance of Gluma with different composite restorative materials.

    Main Methods:

    • 320 dental cavities were restored using Gluma and two different composite materials.
    • Marginal contraction gaps were measured over 415 days to evaluate adhesive performance.

    Related Experiment Videos

  • Shelf life was determined by assessing adhesive effectiveness throughout the study duration.
  • Main Results:

    • Gluma demonstrated significantly better effectiveness when used with one of the two composite restorative materials tested.
    • No significant degradation in performance was observed over the 415-day study period.
    • The shelf life of Gluma was found to exceed 415 days under the study conditions.

    Conclusions:

    • Gluma is an effective dentin adhesive, particularly when paired with specific composite materials.
    • The commercial formulation of Gluma exhibits excellent stability and a long shelf life.
    • Findings support the reliable use of Gluma in clinical restorative dentistry for durable restorations.
