Background:

Interprofessional learning is crucial in health sciences.
Dental curriculum integration of community pharmacy settings enhances education.
Fostering collaboration between dentists and pharmacists is essential.

Purpose of the Study:

To expose dental students to community pharmacy practice.
To improve understanding of drug laws and prescription writing.
To build interprofessional relationships between dentists and pharmacists.

Main Methods:

Dental students observed community pharmacy operations for one hour.
Learning objectives focused on pharmacy procedures, error reduction, and pharmacist support.
A written assignment and online course evaluation were used.

Main Results:

All 119 dental students completed the activity (100% completion).
The average assignment grade was 96.2%.
Students rated the pharmacy observation activity favorably in course evaluations.

Conclusions:

The pharmacy observation successfully integrated an interprofessional component into a didactic dental course.
The activity was well-received by both dental students and community pharmacists.
This initiative enhanced dental students' understanding of pharmacy practice and interprofessional collaboration.
