The mapping system (SIMAP), is an experience of the Institute of Nutrition of Central America and Panama in developing an appropriate software (programs) for information needs of the countries of the Central American Isthmus. Through its main characteristics: geographic association, easy use, flexible and versatile, SIMAP is a tool that can easily be used for decision-making in the different sectors. The system's main modules are presented in this article as well as some applications where the SIMAP would serve as support in the analysis and interpretation of information.
