High-intensity interval training vs. moderate-intensity continuous exercise training in heart failure with preserved

High-intensity interval training (HIIT) significantly improved peak oxygen uptake and diastolic dysfunction in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) patients. This exercise intervention shows promise for early adaptations in HFpEF management.

- HIIT significantly improved V̇o₂peak and reduced the grade of left ventricular diastolic dysfunction.
- No significant changes in V̇o₂peak, diastolic dysfunction, or FMD were observed in the MI-ACT group.
- A trend towards reduced left atrial volume index was noted with HIIT compared to MI-ACT.
Conclusions:
- Four weeks of HIIT effectively improved cardiorespiratory fitness and diastolic function in HFpEF patients.
- HIIT appears to offer a more potent stimulus for early exercise training adaptations in HFpEF compared to MI-ACT.
