Purpose of the Study:

  • To validate the effectiveness of postoperative radiotherapy in breast conserving therapy (BCT).
  • To evaluate reasons for omitting radiotherapy after breast conserving surgery (BCS) in a real-world, non-trial setting.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective outcome study using data from the Munich Cancer Registry (1998-2012).
  • Inclusion of 30,811 patients diagnosed with breast cancer.
  • Analysis of radiotherapy's effect using Kaplan-Meier estimates and Cox regression; predictors of omission analyzed via logistic regression.

  • This epidemiological study cannot determine specific patient groups for whom radiotherapy omission is safe.
